Between Thursday and Saturday
The delegation, led by committee Chair Aurore Lalucq, will travel to Washington D.C. to attend the 2024 annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. In the margins, the delegation will also meet with IMF and World Bank officials, US House representatives, the White House Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, as well as representatives of leading businesses, think tanks and stakeholders.
On the US front, the focus will be on the economic programme of the democratic and republican campaigns, as well as the impact of the economy on the presidential election. When meeting with IMF and World Bank officials, the main topic will be the global economic outlook, in particular rising public debt.
The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs held its first annual hearing in the 10th term with the Chairpersons of the European Supervisory Authorities, in accordance with Article 3 of the European Banking Authority, European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority and European Securities and Markets Authority Regulations, on October 14, 2024.
The discussion focused on the institutions' experience throughout the previous year, including the Authorities' role in rulemaking, supervision and coordination, as well as on the institutions' expectations regarding their future development and key challenges in the context of their respective budgetary and resource needs.
